Tissot's first period as an artist was spent creating elaborate costume period paintings set in medieval times. "Walk in the Park," also known as "The Two Sisters," was one of Tissot's first "modern-style" paintings. It was very well received by critics and the public when exhibited at the Salon of 1864.
